Type:

A wick that has burned out can be moved or replaced entirely, here are the instructions:

  • The metal mandrel that holds the wick in place can be pulled out with pliers. Ideally, however, you should use a vice (or at least a second pair of pliers), as the mandrel generally holds the match shank very well and you will be able to remove the threaded head first. To avoid this, use the aforementioned vice.
    • Also, the mandrel is made of hard and brittle metal and therefore you may break it when soldering. It is important not to twist the mandrel, but to pull it only in the direction of the match shank. Unfortunately, you will have to replace any broken thorn with your own strength.
    • Reversing the mandrel ideally also requires a vice and a small hammer, as you will only be able to drive the mandrel back into the shank up to the projections on the sides. Insert it into the shank with the round side.
    • The wick will last a long time under normal use, it is important to have gasoline in the match, then the wick will not burn, but soak up the gasoline. The match is not meant to burn permanently if you strike it and let it burn - that is when the gasoline burns and the wick starts to burn.
